Third Annual, Kayak Fishing Classic.

Official Rules

  1. ELIGIBLE PARTICIPANTS: Anglers 17 years and older are considered adults and anglers 16 years and younger are considered youths and each angler must have paid an entry fee and received a scoring bag including, ruler, score card, pen, etc. in order to compete in the tournament.
  2. ELIGIBLE SPECIES: Species of fish include snook, snapper, redfish and trout. One fish per species with no size restriction may be caught and photographed. Fish may be culled so the angler records the largest of each fish caught. Angler must take an accurate picture of the fish on the official tournament ruler and properly record the type of fish and the length of the fish on the scorecard. All fish must be released properly and swim away under no duress. Any fish that dies will be disqualified.
  3. CAMERA: All registered anglers must provide a digital camera for use during the tournament. The tournament scorekeeper will be able to read most standard memory cards, and all photos will be downloaded onto the scorekeeper’s computer at check-in on May 17. The first photo on the memory card used in the tournament must be taken at the registration table at the Captain’s Meeting on May 16, and the second photo must be taken of the angler’s kayak at launch on Saturday May 17. All photos of fish caught for the event must show the entire fish on the official tournament ruler, and the measurement must be legible. If you have the USB cable for your camera, please bring it with you in order to ensure that your photos can be downloaded.
  4. SAFETY AND CONDUCT: Observe safe boating measures at all times. Every angler is expected to follow all U. S. Coast Guard regulations including possession of personal flotation devices and all items required by law.
  5. COMMUNICATION: The use of mobile communication is allowed.
  6. PERMITTED FISHING METHODS: All fish must be caught via hook and line. Live bait and artificial lures are permitted.
  7. PERMITTED FISHING LOCATIONS: Contestants may fish in any salt or brackish water area that is permitted by local, state or federal officials.
  8. OFFICIAL TIME: The tournament clock will be synchronized with all participants at the Captains Meeting on Friday evening.
  9. OTHER INFORMATION: During the tournament, anglers may not receive assistance by “hole sitting” or placing markers to target fish. Anglers may not be towed by any motorized vehicles unless disabled or in danger. All fishing must be conducted from a non-motorized watercraft. The angler may leave the boat to stand or wade fish but must physically be in contact with the boat and/or be attached by lanyard. A maximum of two (2) anglers per water craft is permitted. Anglers may transport their boat to put in at any safe location. Anglers may not put lines in the water until first safe light. Anglers must have lines out of the water by 4:00 PM and must return scorecards and cameras by 5:00 PM to the tournament check-in table at Lovers Key State Park. Anglers may travel by motorized vehicle to check in scorecards. If the above rules are violated due to an emergency, the catch will be disqualified.
  10. SCORING: Catch and release only…the length (total inches) of the combined total of each species of fish (the largest fish per species) will be the only criteria for scoring. A photograph must be taken of each fish against the tournament ruler that is provided and a corresponding score should be recorded on the scorecard.
  11. LATE PENALTY: Any angler that attempts to turn in a scorecard after 5:00 PM on the official tournament clock will be disqualified.
  12. RELEASE OF LIABILITY: All anglers participate at their own risk. Tournament officials, including the Southwest Florida Council and volunteers, sponsors and individuals and any others directly or indirectly involved with this tournament are exempt from liability for loss, damage, injury, negligence, or harm to any entrant, their companions or other participants.
  13. PRIZES: Prizes and trophies will be awarded to the top 3 places, in both the adult and youth divisions.
